What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low impact exercise. It encourages good, everyday movement of the body.

Pilates strengthens the deep muscles in the abdominals and back, keeping them strong and active, paramount to sitting and standing in good alignment.

Pilates is body and mind conditioning, focusing on what is moving and what is not. It improves your movement and posture, making you feel more confident to go about your daily life safely. It promotes your well-being and keeps you active.

Be kind to your body.

It is designed for movement.

What changes will you see and feel?

  • Reduced aches and pains and / or frequency in time you experience them

  • Improved balance and increased confidence in moving safely

  • Reduced the risk of injury including fall prevention

  • Maintained and stronger bones and muscle strength

  • Improved posture

  • Improved flexibility

  • Improved mood and well-being

"I was advised by friends to take up Pilates after a back injury 23 years ago and discovering that I had osteoporosis.

Sally’s knowledge of bone health is excellent. She gives great advice on which exercises I can and can’t do plus modifications where required.

I can feel the benefit of the classes as my movements become easier and I have far less pain. My posture improves and I move with more confidence."

"I started Pilates over ten years ago. At the time I was experiencing pain in my shoulders and upper back particularly when working at my work desk. It's many years since I had these problems that plagued me before I started Pilates. The main thing I have taken from Pilates is the importance of caring for my spine.

I particularly enjoy Sally's classes as we work through a 6 week programme, focussing on particular areas of the body.

Explanations are excellent.

There are equal genders in class.

Everyone can benefit. Give it a go!"

"When I found I could hardly get out of bed in the morning, I started Pilates.

The classes have been my salvation in keeping moving. I can move my back freely now and the classes are a lovely gentle way of keeping active.

Sally has great empathy with all levels of fitness and if one exercise is too much, she suggests an alternative. We leave our classes feeling much revived keeping our advancing years at bay for a while longer!"
